TurboGrafx 16 is a video game. In Japan, this video game is also called a PC Engine. This video game is a fourth-generation console that was designed by Hudson and taken into the market for selling by NEC. Despite having an 8 bit central processor unit, being the first gaming device to be released in the 4th generation of gaming consoles, also known as the 16-bit era. In Japan, it was released in 1987, and in North America, it was released in 1989. The system was designed to compete with the Famicom in Japan, but due to a delayed release in the United States, it was forced to compete with the Nintendo Entertainment System and then the Sega. This gaming console contains a Central Processing Unit of 8 bit and a GPU of dual 16 bit with a video color encoder and video display controller. Out of 512 colors, the GPUs can display 482 colors of them at the same time. This TurboGrafx 16 is the smallest significant home game device ever built.  Games were launched on cartridges of HuCard, and later, with the TurboGrafx CD add-on, on CD-ROM optical format. Some criticized the use of the word 16 in the system’s North American title, as well as the advertising of this device as a 16-bit platform regardless of the fact that it only had an 8 bit CPU.

In 1991, NEC released the Super CD-ROM 2, an improved version of the CD-ROM 2 System that upgraded to Version 3 from BIOS and increased buffered RAM from 64kB to 256kB. The PC Engine Duo, a new edition of the system with a CD ROM drive and enhanced RAM already built-in, was released on September 21, the first of multiple upgrades.

HuCard ROM Cartridges:

Games for the TurboGrafx 16 are stored on HuCard ROM cartridges, which are small credit-card-sized cards that fit into the console’s front slot. HuCards from the PC Engine have 38 connector pins, however, HuCards from the TurboGrafx-16, also known as TurboChips, have eight of these connectors in the opposite order.  The console’s power switch also serves as a lock, preventing HuCards from being withdrawn while the machine is turned on. Due to the TurboGrafx-16’s limited availability in Europe, the console does not have its own PAL formatted HuCards, instead of supporting regular HuCards and producing a PAL 50 Hz streaming video.

VIDEO GAMES IN TurboGrafx 16:

For the TurboGrafx 16, a variety of 686 Best TurboGrafx Games were released. Keith in Alpha Zones was a pack-in game for the system in North America, although it was not available for the PC Engine. In Japan, the PC Engine platform had a lot of third-party support, whereas the TurboGrafx-16 machine had a hard time attracting developers. Many of Hudson’s successful franchises were ported to the system with graphically spectacular sequels. In Japan, Ys I & II, a collection of both games from Falcom’s series, was a huge hit. Cosmic Fantasy 2 was an RPG that was transferred to the US from Japan and won RPG of the Year from Electronic Gaming Magazine in 1993.

BONK’S ADVENTURE:

Bonk is the TurboGrafx 16 logo. He’s supposed to be the face of the console, like Sonic and Mario, but he didn’t catch on as well as the other two, who are still getting new movies, tv shows, and the best pc engine games.

SPLATTER HOUSE:

This horror-themed game is a horror unlike anything else published at the time. On the package, there was a funny warning that read: “This game’s terrifying concept may be unsuitable for tiny kids… and a coward.”

DEVIL’S CRUSH:

Devil’s Crush is a great example of a pinball game that goes beyond the physical pinball’s restrictions. This video game, like Splatter House, has a lot of dark themes and images, and it absolutely pushes the boundaries of what was considered acceptable at the time. In reality, some of the darker imagery were edited in the American version.

BOMBERMAN 93:

Bomberman is a fantastic series of video games, and Bomberman is without a doubt the best of all. The gameplay is similar to that of previous games launched in the series.
